6 x6 Throw that Has a Red "N" in the Middle

A reader wrote to me:

“Hi , I am a new member to you and to crocheting. My loving Husband asked if I would make hem a 6 x6 throw that has a red "N" in the middle. He is a big Husker Fan. Can you please help me. I dont know where to state. Thanks in advance.”

Can you help her?

If you can, please post your resources here in the "Comment" column below to share with the community.

I really appreciate it.

Thank you,

Kelly

The reader didn't say what other color her husband wanted but the big Red N, LOL So it will be easy for her if she will crochet just a plain afghan in the color he wants then crochet 3 red strips to the length she will need and place them in the N shape and stitch them on. I saw a Red Rebal Afghan with the blue X done this way with little blue granny squares and stitched together then placed in the X form and stitched down. I believe that will be the easiest for her if she is new to crocheting.

I would make a chain 6 ft' long and get a piece of graph paper that has that many squares to stitches(or more and you can trim it}. Note the squares will be smaller than the stitch. than I would make a swatch with single crochet to see how tall you need the blanket, but you can still use one stitch up one square up. Draw an "N" in the middle of the graph paper and shade that in. whenever you get to a shaded area drop the old coler and pick up the new. I hope this helps.

I did the same as Brenda and it works great. I made a pillow with a big yellow star in the middle. Got graph paper and charted it out. The recipient loved it.

You could do afghan stitch throughout, and then cross-stitch the letter where you would like it.

In making AKA blankets for a group of soronity sisters, I took graph paper and charted out AKA in the middle, crocheting the blanket using the graph as a chart. If this does not work, make afghan squares and cross stitch or stitch the N as you go. .

Well, they would have to be rather masculine granny squares to impress a man. Otherwise, he will simply not touch it. Men are interesting that way, are they not?

For a beginner, I would recommend making a solid, manly afghan first, and then adding the equally manly letter afterwards.
